Last month saw us celebrate the achievements of the North West construction industry as the best and most innovative construction projects and companies were honoured at the fifth annual North West Regional Construction Awards.
Organised by the Centre for Construction Innovation, and hosted by TV newsreader Lucy Meacock, the event took place at Chester Racecourse where seventeen awards were presented to worthy winners, selected from over 100 nominations. (Read More)

The North West Construction Knowledge Hub (NWCKH) will be at exhibiting at Greenbuild Expo 2011 - the UK’s newest sustainable building and refurbishment event which is taking place at Manchester Central on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 June, from 09:30-16:00 (both days).

The new Government Construction Strategy designed to exploit the potential for public procurement of construction and infrastructure projects to drive growth was officially published on 31st May 2011. On 13th June CCI hosted an event at the CUBE Gallery to share the Government’s strategy with representatives from the North West construction industry.
The presentations and discussions were chaired by Professor Peter McDermott, CCI, University of Salford who also provided a brief overview of procurement as a driver for realising Government policies.

The Government has now announced its strategy regarding the future use of BIM on the Government Estate. It will endorse the Low Carbon Construction Report’s recommendation that BIM should become a key part of the Government's future procurement and operation of its buildings and Government will set a Roadmap leading to a requirement for BIM information from all bidders and contractors on future public sector projects .

The Heyhouses Estate in Lytham St Annes is a development born from a need to regenerate existing properties which had exceeded their life expectancy and suffered from considerable subsidence due to the poor ground conditions. The scheme upheld key sustainable themes integrated with innovative ideas, which utilised feedback derived from consultation with the existing residents as well as the organisations involved, establishing a successful project with sustainability at its source. CCI and Hill Dickinson have recently completed a survey of the built environment sector in the North West of England, trying to find out just what is on the collective mind of the industry and what are the things are of interest to it.
The bulk of the responses came from contractors (34%), but other types of companies who responded to the survey included architects, engineers and quantity surveyors, with the new build private commercial sector (69% of respondents) and new build public non-housing (66% of respondents) proving to be the main areas where respondents worked.
